Dubrovnik is one of the most famous cities of the Mediterranean, a place of great beauty with a unique historic culture (not for nothing is it on UNESCO's world heritage list). Note the incredible fortified walls, including the entry port, which surround the old city. They are 1940m long and can be walked along. Dubrovnik is definitely Croatia's main attraction, supported by a high quality tourist infrastructure. You need several days to see the city, but walking through the narrow streets and the small squares, the monumental bastions and the forts is enough to give you an immediate taste of its ancient fascination. Its environment is equally impressive: the area is not only covered by abundant Mediterranean vegetation, gardens, woods and orange and lemon groves, but there are also tropical and subtropical plants brought over the centuries by sailors returning from their journeys. And finally, Dubrovnik has now become a city of great culture and art, the most important event being the Dubrovnik Summer Festival (10 July – 25 August) which has been held annually since 1950.
